The American Navy’s term for historians who can bring the perspective of the past to present military planning.
The Naval History and Heritage Command at the Washington Navy Yard, is seeking to vivify its vast archive of artifacts and records so that it can inform current strategic thinking, according to a report by The Navy Times:
Neither sailors nor leaders have enough appreciation for how useful history could be in their day-to-day decision-making, said retired Rear Adm. Jay DeLoach. But he hopes to change that. … In his vision, Navy leaders in the Pentagon could call to get a custom report on historical precedents to aid in making a difficult decision.
